Bit like saying *if* MS had not had all those tech/luck issues he'd be heading the championship

I always find it odd that whenever a thread about Schumacher starts, it's only a matter of time before talk about him crashing into Hill or Villeneuve and what a awful cheat it made him.
Senna did it to Prost and no such accusation. He even told people before the race that he was going to do it.

Just an observation.
Love Senna but he gets special treatment becaus he died. Sympathy sort of.

His 7 world championships, 91 wins, the previous 155 podiums made no impression on you, so I kind of guessed this one little podium would not either.
If he won another twelve championships there would still be some with their fingers in their ears singing la la la..

What, those would be the wins where he had a car that contained features other cars were not allowed to have? The wins where he had tyres that other cars were not allowed to have? The wins where he drove other cars of the track etc..

You mean all of those wins? Or are there others we had not noticed? wink

Now, of course, he is a useful driver for sure and it is clear that not any old monkey could have won all the races he had. But there is no way on this planet that he is the legend he is made out to be.

F1 is simply much more transparent and open now, than it was back in Schumi's peak period. This is why, in 2012, Schumi is demonstrated to be a good driver, but not quite the living driving god that some thought he was. Having a more level playing field has succeeded in that.

Not to mention the "Racing great" winner of yesterday's race also lucked out big time. Oh I did mention it ~ shame on me... smile...and bet you are one of those who believe his car was the worst dawg on the grid too ... ... wink

Sheeesh!

Pick holes in his Q3 time at Monaco ... go on. Pure luck no doubt.

Any race reader worth his salt knows that yesterday's result was a very false one where the podium 1-2-3 was concerned, not just Schumacher being there.

Whilst largely agreeing with much of what you write and believed that at the time, ask yourself in today's F1 environment, how would a twenty-something Michael Schumacher shape up with these youngsters of today. No doubt in my mind he'd shape up pretty well. Indeed, the aged MSC is putting up a good show too despite the variuos disadvantages and the "slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune" this season .. :Oh, now I've gone all wossname ... rofl

So, any 'enthusiasts' out there nursing their MSC hatred, rest assured, it's not going to last forever. Nothing ever does so I for one will enjoy it for what it is whilst I can.

Consider this:~

Based on Q3 Monaco 'luck' and yesterday's good fortune, just maybe the old man of the tracks luck has changed for the better.

If it has and continues, all those young fella me lads on the grid better watch out .. including the 'true' racers whoever they are ... wink

Cue eerie music ... hehe

I would never describe my dislike as anything remotely close to hatred. I do not 'hate' anyone or anything. However, unlike you, I have met Schumacher on several occasions. As a courtesy to him, I am not prepared to discuss my reasoning beyond saying that I do not agree with the "general perception", which is either, a/ because of my own skewed view; or b/ because there has been a somewhat deliberately manufactured, and highly successful manipulation of public opinion.

However, I agree with you about the general perception of F1 being altered as a result of this man and his phenomenal influence upon so many –amongst whom plenty saw in him a potential to further their own interests. No doubt it will be clear by now that, unlike this 'many', I do not see these traits as particularly admirable qualities.

One more thing I should add –which may at first appear to be in his defence– is that there were many factors responsible for the increased perception of F1 as 'boring' (forced refuelling, for instance, had a negative effect, in my opinion). Then again, it might be said that his sphere of influence was so broad (dare I say 'great'?) that these changes went hand in hand with his appearance and presence upon the scene until his first retirement.
While I agree with everythng Cosicave says...I still fking hate him!
Ab Fab to waive the F1 rule book at him in Albert Park and ask if he had read it this year. Can't wait to repeat the question in Singapore in September.

I am happy to admit his appearance on the podium pissed me off, but if his fanboys think an inherited 3rd place after running 7-10th all day with four others in front falling off at the death is a return to his 'greatest' form then I certainly am not the deluded one biggrin
PS At least Kimi was one step above him.

Good to see the old villain get a podium. Is it wrong that I was watching to see if the mechanics congratulating him were stuffing ballast into his overalls before he got to the weigh in ? hehe

PS Karma is for real, but he wont get his just desserts in this incarnation.
Next time around won't be much fun for him, given his spiritual misdemeanours not to say felonies...

Nah, don't think so.

He is a middle of the pack driver in a middle of the pack car. Sometimes, circumstances will allow him to get a podium, even a win. That is the best he can hope for.

But can he compete with the likes of Alonso, even Hamilton?

I am not sure he was as good as Alonso even when he was younger. He definitely is'nt now.

Schumacher is a multiple WDC because, in this order:

1. He was allowed a car that had features other cars did not have.

2. He was allowed tyres other cars could not have.

3. Other teams were not smart enough / politically adept enough/ or were even allowed to play the same game ( it will eventually become better understood wink )

4. He was a good driver.

5 . He got away with some dirty tricks.

I think this order of things fairly reflects his role in the sport over the years. He's a decent enough driver, but even I could be a millionaire if I could play at Las Vegas with a loaded dice.

It wasn't a false podium though. F1 is about driver skill and car technology and luck. People crashing out/retiring in front is part of the game and being in a position to capitalise on that is what being in the lower part of the top 10 in a race is all about.
